Every year a lot of runners in Utah qualify and run the Boston Marathon. I'd like to form a training group in MMR to train, organize loose group races (none of the available winter racing series have coincided with my Boston Marathon training schedules), swap training tips and programs, discuss events, and just have fun. Even if you have not qualified yet, but have that as a goal, you'd be welcome to join in on the discussion and/or workouts. It would be great to get to know some other folks going to Boston in '09 and get together at the athlete's village.

I'm located in South Davis County and have great access to the new Legacy Parkway Trail. I also belong to the South Davis Road Runners Club, a great group of runners of all abilities run by a real pro with a lot of energy and knowledge. Check out our page on MMR, where you can get a link to our site.

Personally, this will be my 3rd consecutive Boston Marathon, so if you are a first timer, this would be a good place to find out a lot about the race. I am training to break 3 hours, something I did in 2007 but on a much easier course. My best Boston time thus far has been 3:07, which I ran in 2008. My training program oficially starts in December, but I am running a lot now to keep my base up. I can't stand to run indoors and unless the conditions are life threatening, I run outside year 'round. I will be running a lot on mtn trails until the weather makes it impossible.

Please reply to this thread if you are interested. Even a few folks would be worth setting up a group in MMR, and have a place to have discussions and post workouts. Would be interesting to find out where you qualified for Boston 2009, too!

I think that a training group is a great idea. I qualified for boston in 2002 with the Top of Utah marathon. That was my first and only marathon (TOU). I was a poor college student and was too poor to go to Boston. Plus, I got married soon after and didn't run too much until this spring.

I was living in Ogden up until last week when I moved back to Logan. I don't know if I am up to a marathon yet but I have run the half marathon distance once or twice over the summer.

I may not be the best person for your group but I would be interested to see what you are doing to possibly at least help my own motivation and training in the cold winter months ahead. And who knows, maybe sometime I'll be down in your area sometime for a training run.

    eglefino:

I think the TOU is one of the best marathons to qualify for Boston on. I ran my PR there in 2007, and think it is a faster course overall than St. George, a course a lot of Utahans qualify on.

Keep checking back here to find the group name, when I think there is enough interest in forming a group. You would always be welcome to join, even if for ideas, motiviation, and inspiration.
